What is "FTR" in IRCTC?

FTR stands for Full Tariff Rate, and it's a service provided by IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) to book entire coach or Train or Saloon.

IRCTC's Full Tariff Rate (FTR) booking empowers individuals, organisations, and groups to reserve an entire train or coach on a specific route and dates for their travel. Whether it’s a wedding party, a school trip, or a pilgrimage, FTR booking ensures privacy, convenience, and flexibility.

Minimum distance for booking?

There is no stipulated minimum distance requirement for booking. Nevertheless, when chartering special trains, coaches, saloons, etc., the fare for a minimum distance of 500 kilometers for both the outward and return journey will be applicable.

what can be booked ?

Under FTR booking service following can be booked:
  • Maximum Two ( 2) coaches in a Train
  • Special Train of minimum 18 coaches and maximum 24 coaches with two mandatory SLR or Generator car.

    Minimum duration of Booking ?

    One can submit charter requests up to 6 months in advance and no later than 30 days prior to their desired departure date. For instance, if your travel date is December 15th, it is advisable to register your final demand by November 13th.”

    FTR Booking Process 

    The process for booking coach ,train & Saloon on  Full Tariff Rate (FTR) booking on IRCTC involves following steps:

    Step 1: Go to the official IRCTC FTR website at https://www.ftr.irctc.co.in/ftr/

    Step 2: Log in using your User ID and password. If you’re a new user, sign up to create your account. 

    Step 3: Choose Your Service, if you wish to reserve an entire coach or even an entire train.

    Step 4: Enter journey details like from , To and date and check service availability.

    Step 5: Once service availability confirmed , Make an online mandatory payment for a Registration Money cum Security Deposit (RMSD) of Rs. 50,000 per coach to register coach or train.Upon payment a unique Registration ID, commencing with "FTR," will be generated for your reference. ( Payment can be made within 6 days of request)
    Step 6: Wait for 15 days from the date of registration for  Rejection or Provisional Confirmation of your request. A confirmation email or sms will be received on each status like pending , under process , confirmation or rejection.
    Step 7: Submit the  complete list of passenger travelling 24 hours before travel.

    Note: FTR number generation does not guarantee booking of Coach / Train / Saloon.

    IRCTC FTR charges

     Based on our experience, it is observed that approximately twice (2) the total normal fare for the full capacity of the train/coach will be required when opting for charter services. While chartering a train/coach, the following charges will be applicable
    a) Service charge on base fare 
    b) Superfast charges 
    c) Empty Haulage charges 
    d) Detention Charges 
    e) Engine Detention charges 
    f) Haulage charges for Pantry etc 
    g) Charges for additional stoppage 
    h) Facilitation Charges 
    i) GST on Facilitation Charges
    Some of the key charges rates are as follows:

    Empty Haulage chargesAn empty haulage charge will be applied at the rate of (basic fare + reservation charge) for the carrying capacity of coaches during the actual empty haulage of rakes/coaches or a minimum haulage charge for 200 kilometers, whichever is greater.
    Haulage charges for Dining Car/Kitchen Car/Pantry Car/Generator CarRs. 130 per kilometer per coach. (Subject to changes)
    Haulage charges for SLR & Luggage VanSLR coach will be charged at the carrying capacity of the sleeper class coach with sleeper class fare.
    Service charge on base fare30% service charge on the base fare.
    Detention ChargesRs. 900/- per hour per coach, subject to a minimum charge of Rs. 1500/- per coach without giving any extra time.
    Engine Detention chargesEngine detention charge presently charged @ Rs 1465/ per hour, applicable for the halt of a special train.
    Charges for additional stoppageTwo free stoppages up to 20 minutes are permitted in each block for a 1000-km journey. Additional halts/stoppages up to 2 minutes shall be permitted at a rate of Rs. 25,000/- per halt/stoppage. For halts of more than 2 minutes, Point-to-Point fare charge plus applicable detention charges or Rs. 25,000/- per halt, whichever is more, shall be levied.

    FTR Terms and condition

    The online booking of a Full Tariff Rate (FTR) train is permitted for journeys commencing from stations across all railway networks. Chartered coaches may be attached or detached only at stations where the scheduled stoppage is 10 minutes or longer. 

    It's important to note that the attachment of coaches is restricted and is not applicable to all trains.

    Security deposit:To secure a booking, the party is required to furnish details such as the booking type, journey specifics of coaches, route information, and other relevant details through the online form. Additionally, a registration cum security deposit of Rs. 50,000/- per coach must be submitted. In cases where the train booking consists of less than 18 coaches, the party is still obligated to pay the registration amount for 18 coaches, totaling Rs. 9,00,000/-. Upon successful payment, the party will receive an automatically generated reference number, which should be cited in all future correspondences.

    Payment of fare:The fare, as communicated by IRCTC, must be settled in its entirety either before 7 working days in advance or by the date specified by IRCTC, whichever comes first. 

    All payments to IRCTC are required to be conducted through online transactions exclusively.

    On completion of tour folder/receipt, along with the original certified name list, No damage certificate, etc., is to be submitted to the IRCTC office within 21 days of completing the journey. It's important to note that submissions beyond the 21-day period will not be accepted, and consequently, the refund of Railway Material Security Deposit (RMSD) cannot be processed.

    The priority process is based on  time of receiving the registration amount with IRCTC and is subject to the successful generation of the Full Tariff Rate (FTR) number.

    The security deposit can be remitted through online banking, credit card, debit card, or via RTGS/NEFT transactions.

    FTR Cancellation

    Cancellation charges for coaches, Train and Saloon booked under FTR are as follows:
