Shri Anil Kumar Khandelwal Assumes Role as Member Infrastructure on Railway Board

Shri Anil Kumar Khandelwal assumed the role of Member Infrastructure, Railway Board, and Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Railways on February 20, 2024. A seasoned professional with a 1987 batch officer designation in the Indian Railway Service of Engineers, Mr. Khandelwal brings over 35 years of expertise to his new position. His career trajectory encompasses key roles in South Central Railway, Southern Railway, Railway Board, Northern Railway, USBRL Project, and various capacities in the Railway Board, ultimately leading to his recent role as the General Manager of East Central Railway. 

Noteworthy achievements include his significant contributions to the construction and maintenance of Indian Railways' infrastructure. Serving as the Chief Administrative Officer/Construction for the USBRL Project, Mr. Khandelwal played a pivotal role in the construction of the world's highest railway bridge, the Chenab Bridge. His leadership as the Executive Director/Track Machines at the Railway Board facilitated India's transition from a track machine importer to an exporter. 


Under his tenure as the Executive Director/Non-Fare Revenue, Railway Board, Mr. Khandelwal achieved a milestone by realising the highest-ever Non-Fare Revenue of Rs. 10,368 Cr. (6.2% of the total revenue) in 2016-17. Additionally, his role as the first Principal Executive Director of the Gati Shakti Directorate, Railway Board, showcased exceptional leadership in breaking down departmental silos and fostering a collaborative approach to project planning, sanctioning, and monitoring. 

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Khandelwal is a well-rounded individual with a background in sports, having played basketball at the state level. His commitment to lifelong learning is evident through his participation in strategic management programs at INSEAD, Singapore, ICLIF, Malaysia in 2007, and the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. A distinguished fellow and life member of several prestigious institutions, Mr. Khandelwal's leadership and multifaceted achievements mark a commendable contribution to the Indian Railways.
