What is HOG Technology in Railways

Head-On Generation (HOG) technology is a state-of-the-art system designed to power the electrical needs of train coaches directly from the locomotive. In electric locomotives, power is drawn from the Overhead Equipment (OHE) through a pantograph and directed to the traction transformer of the locomotive. This transformer features a hotel load winding with a capacity of 945 kVA and a nominal voltage of 750 V single-phase, which adjusts according to the variations in OHE voltage. This 750 V single-phase supply is then fed into the Hotel Load Converter, which converts it into a 750 V three-phase 50 Hz supply. This three-phase output is used to meet the hotel load demands of the train i.e Air conditioner , Light , Fans and all other electrical appliances of coaches.

In EOG(End On Generation), two generator car are provided in train one working at one time and providing power to coaches in Trains. These power generator cars makes huge noise and emit fumes.
In HOG, in place of two such generator cars there will be only one generator car which will be used in case of emergency. In place of the other car, there will be LSLRD (LHB Second Luggage, Guard & Divyaang Compartment). This LSLRD will also have capability to convert power from the overhead supply to be utilised in the entire train while providing space for luggage guard room and additional passengers.
